Emily Byington Wright, 98

Catherine Ruth Philpott, 98 of South Pittsburg was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 20. Born on May 30, 1928 to John Purdy and Daisy Clemons Purdy, Catherine lived a long and beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and simple joys. She was married to her beloved husband Cecil Philpott until his passing. A devoted member of the Christian Worship Center, Catherine carried her faith with her in every season of life. Catherine found joy in cooking and crocheting, tending to her flowers, and watching her favorite game shows and westerns. She loved to drive, to go anywhere and everywhere, and to be surrounded by the people she cherished most. Time spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, was her greatest delight. Catherine leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Catherine is preceded in death by her father John Purdy, mother Daisy Clemons Purdy, husbands Andrew Murray, Hershel Templeton and Cecil Philpott, brothers Billy Purdy and Pete Purdy, grandson Jackie Cunningham and great grandchildren Jacey & Jacob Avans.
Left to cherish her memories are her son Andrew “Butch” Murray, daughters Faye (Roy) Acuff, Anna Murray, and Stella (Ray) Moore Goins, grandchildren Andrea Murray, Elaine Murray, Houston (Kristy) Avans, Bryan (Kristi) Looney, Tracee (Candie) Higgins, Stephanie Higgins (Gary) Aaron Moore, and Kasa (Roger) Davenport, great grandchildren Jeremy Nunley, Andy Nunley, Madison Avans, Brittany Ruth, Lara Looney, Taylor Looney, Tyler Nance, Tessa Gholston, Chloe Griffith, Jaxon Griffith, Catlyn Lee, Jordan Sams and Ben Sams, several great great grandchildren, great, great, great grandchildren, great, great, great, great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation was on Tuesday, June 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, June 24 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.
Funeral services were on Wednesday, June 24 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, with Pastor Allen Griffith who officiated.
Catherine was laid to rest on Wednesday, June 24 at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper immediately after the funeral services were held.
Pallbearers were Catherine’s grandsons.
