Hales Bar Dam 1950s

  • February 12, 2026

This is a 1950s chrome view of Hales Bar Dam from the west bank of the river. In 1933, R. J. Hoge Sr. caught a 154 pound Mississippi catfish just below the lock. The spillway consisted of 17 separate 40-ton sections that were brought there by barge.
