Tennessee once again ranks as among one of the most move to states in the U.S. in 2025, according to data released by North American Moving Group.
Over the past decade, the Volunteer State has substantially become a hot spot for those seeking to migrate within a new area, it’s lack of state income tax and relatively low cost of living playing pivotal roles in drawing newcomers to the state. According to North American Moving Services, a major moving service company since 1933, Tennessee is ranked fourth among the most inbounded states in the nation, one step ahead from Florida at fifth place but behind both North and South Carolina in third and second, respectively, as well as Idaho at number one.
Tennessee in 2025 has received a large 60% of newcomers relocating within the state, with cities such as Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Johnson City ranked among the top cities movers have relocated to in the state. A major contributor is lower home prices and general cost of living compared to other cities such as Los Angeles, where rising prices and high tax rates contribute towards the migratory influx of individuals relocating to other states. Job opportunities and high amounts of public activities also play a major role into drawing newcomers from out of state.
North American Moving Service’s report suggests that Tennessee, alongside other states like Florida and Idaho, may potentially continue to see an uptick in growth going into 2026, as each states continues to attract newcomers with the job opportunities and lower costs of living each state offers.
