Powell’s Crossroads BoMA has recently approved a set of quotes pertaining ditch clearing across several community roads.

During the town’s recent city meeting, Mayor Dwight Richards presented several quotes submitted by the Marion County Highway Department for several of the town’s different roadways and ditches. Richards detailed five separate quotes: Fourth Way Drive, Sharp Street, Osceola Drive, Ketner Cove Road, and along the corner-side of Bailey Road and Old Chattanooga Highway. Richards explained each site was inspected prior to a quote being submitted by the highway department, where each quote priced in different costs from one another, with the Bailey Road/Old Chattanooga Highway project being the highest in costs at $2,060 due to a 48-inch road tile needing replacing.

“These roads, we have to work on them and we really don’t have a choice,” said Richards.

He explained the purpose of the ditch clearing and tile replacement is to help mitigate floodwaters within the community, especially during times of severe weather and rain. The new road tile mentioned will also not only help further prevent water buildup but also help keep the portion of Bailey Road to Old Chattanooga Highway afloat from collapsing.

“That’s our responsibility. To keep ditches clean and roads from collapsing,” said Richards.

The board unanimously agreed to all five quotes from the county-based highway department. The work is now underway to clear up and improve all six roadways in the community.
