The Marion County Lady Warriors opened their home schedule against the visiting Howard Tigers. Coming off a season that saw several seniors graduate, the Lady Warriors are now relying on new players to step into larger roles. Marion County rose to the occasion, earning a convincing 59-30 victory.
The Lady Warriors jumped out to a fast start in the first quarter, scoring 19 points. Senior Chrysia Timmis led the way with seven points in the period, while Emma Pryor followed closely with six. Jazzy Layne, Heidi Freeman, and Kaylee McGowan each chipped in two points.
Pryor led the scoring in the second quarter with four points, while Timmis added three. McGowan got to the free-throw line and converted three attempts, and Mady Kilgore added a basket to round out the scoring.
Marion County continued its strong play in the third quarter, pouring in 17 points. Timmis once again led the team with seven points, while Pryor added six more. Layne and Freeman each contributed two points to close out the quarter’s scoring.
In the final quarter, Freeman scored three points, Kilgore knocked down two shots for four points, and McGowan added two more to complete the scoring.
The Lady Warriors secured their first home win of the Alex Spence era in dominant fashion.
Marion County will be back in action on the road at Chattanooga Christian School on Thursday, December 18.
