This real picture postcard of Proal’s Grade “A” Tourist Lodge at Kimball is postmarked April 24, 1940. The tourist lodge faced Jasper along Kimball Cove Road. It later became Smith’s Log Cabins and Cafe. These mom-and-pop tourist courts were prominent up until the late 1950s. Once the larger motel chains like Holiday Inn came into existence, these smaller motels soon went out of business. Although Proal’s was in operation for nearly a decade it could not compete with the big motel chains.
