Four residents of Whitwell have been elected as the Marion County Library Board’s newest representatives during the town’s recent Board of Mayor & Commissioners meeting.
During the meeting, Mayor Sandra Crabtree detailed how the board has recently been in the works of restructuring its set of board members, aiming to have four representatives from both South Pittsburg and Whitwell, as well as a commissioner of Marion County to participate. According to Crabtree, the board approached Whitwell’s governing council to elect four community members to represent the library board. Names of those mentioned during the discussion were Linda Ingles, Wendell Sweeton, Sharon Yarbor and Robert Kelly.
Crabtree noted how three separate terms of office will be put in place, with the first term being only for one year and Ingles serving under the term. Sharon Yarbor will serve for two years as a representative, while Sweeton and Kelly will serve three years. Once all members serve their terms, each will be able to serve up to three additional years, as the terms are currently staggered.
Whitwell’s Board of Mayor & Commissioners unanimously approved to elect all four individuals as the community’s official candidates for the countywide library board. However, approval from the county commission is also required prior to the electives taking office, with the commission to discuss the matter further during its upcoming October meeting.
