The Powells Crossroads Board of Mayor & Aldermen has unanimously approved of a quote to pave Sharp Street. They also discussed trimming trees and clearing ditches in the neighborhood surrounding Sharp Street and beyond.
During the community’s monthly city meeting, City Recorder Missy Lane explained how talks with the Marion County Highway Department have been conducted regarding getting a quote for the paving of Sharp Street. The quote submitted to the Board estimated $26,000 in costs.
Sharp Street is located on the northeastern outskirts of the community, connected to both Pickett and Ridgeside Drives near Cove Trail. Lane further detailed how the Highway Department has already patched one pothole formed at the beginning of Sharp Street and Cove Trail, leaving only the need for the road to be paved.
Alderman Larry Higdon remarked how additional clearing of nearby brushes and trees around Sunset Drive and beyond would also need to be conducted to help with the proper flow of water into nearby ditches. And to do so, a tractor with an attached boom mower will be required to help clear out any brush or small trees in the way of runoff water.
Concerns about work pertaining to Sunset Drive have been previously discussed during the town’s March meeting, particularly regarding water drainage in which the Cumby family have shared. The Board has assured additional clearing of brushes and trees, including around Sharp Street are to be done conducted around the area.
“I went up there with Jeff and Nick Campbell to look at it and quote it, and the water that gets in the road can’t get in the ditches,” stated Higdon when referring to Sunset Drive.
All members of the Board agreed to accept the Highway Department’s quote of $26,000 for pavement of Sharp Street, with additional work of tree trimming and clearing various ditches surrounding the area also stated to be done.
