South Pittsburg’s Board of Mayor and Commissioners has approved the closure of North Cedar Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets for Mt. Bethlehem Baptist Church’s second annual Unity Festival.
Tony Mangiameli, a member of Mt. Bethlehem Baptist Church, shared during Citizens Comments that the church is planning to host the festival on Saturday, August 9 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event aims to bring the community together, with the main highlight as a cook-off. He explained that the cook-off is undecided but will be either chili- or barbecue-themed. Firefighters, police officers, and several churches from the area will participate by sharing homemade recipes with attendees meanwhile children will have their own activities.
Mangiameli requested that North Cedar Avenue be closed between 4th and 5th Streets to make room for the festival, a request that was unanimously approved by the Board during this month’s city meeting.
