From 1892 to 1930 the Eagle Pencil Mill operated here in South Pittsburg utilizing local cedar that was sent to the main plant in New York to produce lead pencils. This postcard is dated April 28, 1917 and shows a stack of cedar rails that is about 50 feet tall. The pencil mill was on Third Street where the Lodge foundry is located today.
