During this month’s city meeting in South Pittsburg, the board approved the hiring of a new staff member for the city’s public works department.
City Administrator Michael Hudson introduced himself to those in attendance, sharing the work he had completed during his first four days in office. He mentioned meeting with Director of Public Works Will Maynor and other community leaders in various departments. During these discussions, Maynor highlighted his interview with Nick Swafford, a South Pittsburg resident, and recommended him for the position.
Hudson explained that while reviewing the city budget, he noticed two public works employees had been removed from the payroll. Maynor and his team had been working to fill these vacancies, and the recommendation to hire Swafford was part of that effort. Maynor shared that Swafford had a strong interview and came with 16 years of experience working in Lodge’s environmental department. He also holds a CDL and has experience driving both machinery and large trucks. Maynor added that Swafford was excited about the opportunity to work for the city, as he was looking to transition out of manufacturing and explore new opportunities.
Hudson also assured the board that hiring Swafford would not impact the city’s budget, as the positions and salaries had already been accounted for in the budget, even with the two vacancies.
The city board unanimously approved the motion to hire Nick Swafford, officially making him the newest member of South Pittsburg’s public works department.
