District series are always a gift and a curse, but they also provide an opportunity for a second chance—something Marion County was hoping for after losing 9-8 in game one to Grundy County. The Warriors bounced back in game two, defeating the Yellowjackets 9-6.

Eli Thacker was a force to be reckoned with for Marion County, totaling four RBIs on the night. The Warriors got on the board in the first inning when Caden McCrary hit into a fielder’s choice that scored two runs.

Grundy County fought back in the following inning, putting up three runs to take the lead. Thacker responded in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single to tie the game. The score remained 3-3 until the fourth inning, when Neno Humphrey singled to drive in Eli Blevins. Greyson Hoback followed with a single of his own to give the Warriors a two-run lead.

Marion County broke it open in the fifth inning after Alex Barker was hit by a pitch, bringing a run home. Thacker later reached on an error that cleared the bases, extending the Warriors’ lead to five runs. Grundy County attempted to claw back but had no luck.

Alex Barker threw a complete game for Marion County, allowing six runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out three.

Marion County returns to action on Thursday, April 2 at Red Bank at 2:30 p.m.
