A presentation dedicated to the importance of general hygiene was recently hosted at the Whitwell Senior Center, where those in attendance were shown various steps to take to remain healthy and clean.
The first of its kind for the facility, the idea to host the presentation was brought to Director Sandy Tenille’s attention by members of the senior center. According to Tenille, because of growing numbers in memberships, other attendees felt an educative presentation dedicated to healthy hygiene habits would be beneficial to both recurring members and newcomers to learn about and practice.
“We have a big crowd coming in now,” Tenille said. “And so a lot of them felt like it was really necessary for all of us to make sure we’re doing good hygiene.”
During the presentation, different slideshows were showcased, demonstrating varying habits for body health and cleanliness alongside the tips and tools needed to perform daily hygiene habits properly. Additionally, several cleaning products were showcased to present different methods of keeping up with day-to-day hygiene, particuarlily for those physically struggling to perform hygienic tasks.
Tenille felt hosting the presentation can provide beneficial information on new methods and aids for members of the senior center to utilize to continue staying hygienic and healthy, especially as one’s health changes with time.
“I think as we age, we get into a habit of doing everything the same way,” Tenille said. “I feel like over long periods of time, we tend to stick to those habits and not always realize our bodies change, and that we have to change some of our habits in the way we do our hygiene. So I’m hoping for some of them, it will give them information on aids that are available that they may not know are available.”
Tennille said the presentation is looking to be potentially hosted every three to six months a year for members to participate in, ensuring that all members of Whitwell Senior Center new and recurring are given the information they need to stay hygienic.
