Posted on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 2:41 pm

On Friday, December 8, Whitwell Middle School held its annual Spelling Bee.  Students in fifth through eighth grade battled through 24 grueling rounds of words in hopes of becoming the next champion.

WMS would like to congratulate Leeo Pardo on becoming the 2023 Whitwell Middle School Spelling Bee Champion. Leeo, confidently and flawlessly, competed with 20 students to take the title, winning with the word “glumly.” Joining Leeo at the top were:  second place – Greysen Hoskins (grade seven); and third place – Joses Cruz (grade five).

WMS would like to thank all of the students who took part in the bee: Brandy Thurman, Destiny Sanders, Caleb Adkins, Sophie Cookston, Josie Parker, Rocklin Gilliam, Andrew Jeffress, Jax Holden, Noah Kilgore, Tyler Tripp, Tori Bell, Jay Beam, Bennett Painter, Kynlee Hamilton, and Braxton Reynolds.

The next step of the spelling bee process will be an online format for each school winner. The winner of the online format will move on to regionals held at UTC sometime in March.
