Whitwell High School’s drain connection project has received approval of a change order with Chris Harvey Construction through the county’s Board of Education.
The project consists of fixing and improving upon a drain connection at Whitwell High, as issues surrounding the drain were reported to the board, including flooding within the school restrooms. Mark Griffith, Director of Schools, explained the change order centers on additional work being conducted to ensure the drain’s overall functionality. The additions were notified after further inspections were conducted by board project manager Randy Gilliam.
“Mr. Gilliam did the grunt work to get us the determination that we need additional work done on that drain,” said Griffith.
Griffith further noted the project would take up to two days to complete, officially beginning right alongside ongoing renovations with the school’s amphitheater. Chris Harvey Construction serves as the project’s main contractor, who was accepted through a given bid regarding the project.
“We bid the project and we’ve seen something else that needed to be included within the bid,” said Griffith. “So that’s an approval for them to go in there and do that.”
Because of the change order’s approval, Chris Harvey Construction was officially given the thumbs up to begin work on the drain connection. The project has since been completed.
