Last Thursday evening, another former South Pittsburg football player, Kamden Wellington, announced he was continuing his academic and athletic career, signing with Tusculum University.

The scholarship offer for Wellington from Tusculum is to play football, where he will look to build off his highly successful career that he had in high school with the Pirates.

In his four years at South Pittsburg, Wellington accrued over 5,300 yards combined as a rusher and passer and scored 87 total touchdowns. The dual-threat quarterback was especially instrumental in the Pirates success in earning their second state title in three years and seventh overall in the 2023 season.

Tusculum University is an NCAA Division II school in Tennessee and is a part of the South Atlantic Conference. The Pioneers finished 6-5 last season and placed 52nd in the league, according to ESPN.

After originally reporting he had committed with Maryville College, Wellington now officially joins four other Pirates players who have previously signed with their respective schools, including Logan Hargis, who also signed with Tusculum. AJ Wallace signed with Arkansas State, Jamarion Farrior signed with Mars Hill, and Martavious Collins signed with UTEP.
