Shown here is the W. L. Kirkpatrick store at Copenhagen (Richard City) around 1908. The store carried everything from clotheslines to plow lines, and also served as the post office for the community. From left to right are Della Loving, Sam Giles, W. L. Kirkpatrick, John I. Cox, Bryan and Bruce Kirkpatrick (sons of W. L.), unidentified, Frank Lawson, and A. M. Kirkpatrick. Copenhagen was established on July 8, 1878. The town changed its name to Deptford in 1890 and back to Copenhagen in 1893. It later became known as Richard City then became part of South Pittsburg. Kirkpatrick’s store building burned to the ground on November 21, 1924. Descendants of the Kirkpatrick Family still live in and around South Pittsburg.
