Vernon Kelly Smith Jr., 71, from the Sweetens Cove Community of South Pittsburg went peacefully to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 10th.
Vernon was born March 17, 1954 to the late Vernon Kelly Smith Sr. and Shirley Belle Smith.
He was preceded in death by his sister Kathy Jean Brown, stepfather Luther Brown, maternal grandparents Lawrence and Josire Smith and paternal grandparents Tom & Janey Smith.
Survivors include his loving spouse of 37 years Margaret Smith, three sons Kelly (Kathy) Smith, Mike (Wendy) Smith and Jeff Bowman, daughter Amanda (Garren) Appleton, brothers Howard Brown, James Brown and Don Brown of Fort Oglethorpe, 10 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, special friends, as well as from all in South Pittsburg.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home with Pastor Tracy Fergusson officiating.
Mr. Smith was laid to rest at the Bean-Roulston Cemetery in Sweetens Cove.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 14 from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. and on Tuesday, April 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers were Mike Smith, Kelly Smith, Jeff Bowman, Josh Shipley, Kelly Rector and Hunter Austin.
Honorary Pallbearers were Howard Brown and Jason Hood.

Arrangements were entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home, 400 Laurel Ave, South Pittsburg, Tennessee 37380.
