At the January 4 town of Kimball meeting, the board discussed issues surrounding Verizon services and City Attorney William Gouger Jr. updated the board regarding his communications with the cellular company.
Mayor Rex Pesnell introduced the item to the board for explanation by Attorney Gouger. Gouger referenced that at the November meeting he was asked to write to Verizon with the City’s concerns regarding the quality of service. As he went on to explain, Attorney Gouger mailed a letter but initially received no response.
In December, City Recorder Tonya May, connected with a former account representative of Verizon. That representative was able to refer their communications for follow up with the current account representative. After which the issue was escalated to the government relations and networking specialists for further investigations. These specialists have requested more information from Attorney Gouger regarding timelines of service interruptions and problems encountered.
Attorney Gouger relayed that the representatives revealed during the months of September, October, and November, there were major system changes within Marion County and surrounding areas. As a result, representatives advised that could have accounted for the interruptions and issues. However, as Attorney Gouger pointed out, it was his understanding that this issue predated the system updates.
Verizon account representatives advised Attorney Gouger that they will investigate the information provided. Attorney Gouger clarified that if a solution hasn’t been found by the next meeting, there will be at least an update on the progress of the investigation. He further recommended tabling the item until more information is available to which the board accepted.
