Verizon Wireless, among one of the nation’s largest telecommunications companies, has reported a major outage across the nation on Wednesday, Jan. 14, leaving thousands of Verizon customers offline from the network’s servers.

According to online outage detector Downdetector, a near 179,000 outages were reported across the country, with many taking to social media to explain about the issue. Many have reported their phones being left completely out of cell service, leaving them unable to make phone calls or send messages without the use of Wi-Fi internet. Some customers even stated their devices being taken directly to SOS Mode, a mode which only allows emergency calls to be made when disconnected from the mobile network.

The company took to social media to publicly state their awareness of the nationwide outage, ensuring all their customers that the company’s engineering team were underway with addressing the issue.

“Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today’s service interruptions,” quoted the company on Jan. 14. “Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible.”

The outage has since been resolved.
