Tyra Dionne Jackson, 69 of Jasper was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 21. Born on July 15, 1956, she was the beloved daughter of J. C. McCain and Annie Mitchell Crosby. A woman of deep faith, Tyra attended Randolph Methodist Church where she found joy, purpose, and community. She worked faithfully for more than 40 years at Shaw Industries, earning the respect and friendship of many throughout her decades of service. Tyra’s life was filled with creativity, warmth, and love. She enjoyed cooking meals that brought people together, crafting beautiful things with her hands, and writing poems that reflected her thoughtful spirit. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially during gatherings where laughter, stories, and love were shared freely. Tyra leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and heartfelt devotion to the people she loved. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
Tyra is preceded in death by her father J. C. McCain, mother Annie Mitchell Crosby, brothers James Mitchell, Ronald Mitchell and Charles McCain, as well as sisters Bessie Hale and Annetta Curington.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons Todd Jackson and Orinzie (Jennifer) Mitchell, daughter Veronica Peterson, brother Hershel (Phyllis) McCain, sisters Sarah Gaines and Sandra Mitchell, sister-in-law Barbara Mitchell, aunts Barbara J. Mitchell, Charlsie Banks and Yvonne Brown, grandchildren Tyree Morris, Koby McKeldin, Amaya Peterson and Jordan Mitchell Jackson, several nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as other family members and friends.
Visitation is on Saturday, February 28 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.
Funeral services are also on Saturday, February 28 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, with Pastor Charlsie Bynum officiating.
Tyra will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 28 at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper immediately following the funeral service.
Pallbearers are Kevin Mitchell, Randall Walker, Lee Slaughter, Greg Hale, Ronald Mitchell and Dominique Garrett, with honorary pallbearers being Jamaal Greene and Clark Ellis.
