Tom Allen Morrison, 82 of Jasper passed away on Wednesday, May 28 peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service and unwavering love for his family.
Tom was born on November 11, 1942, in Richard City to Frank and Katherine Jones Morrison. Tom spent his youth in Marion County but later moved to live with his uncle, Dan in Florida. While in Florida, he had a successful football career, earning the nickname “Tennessee Tom” and many college opportunities. However, he chose to join the United States Navy where he served from 1959 until 1966. Tom married his high school sweetheart Faye Barnett in 1962. After serving in the Navy, he attended Baptist Seminary in Springfield, Missouri and became a Baptist minister, building his own Mission Church in Edgewater, Florida while teaching at a Christian school. Tom and his family returned to Marion County in 1973.
Tom was a devoted servant of God, for he shared his faith as a pastor in the Jasper area for many years, offering guidance, compassion and the wisdom of his teachings. His kindness and dedication touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on his congregations and community.
Tom spent his years building a legacy through his work and his unwavering commitment to family and community. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a warm smile, he had a way of making people feel truly valued and cared for. His love for life and strong moral compass will be remembered and cherished.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria Faye Morrison, as well as his parents Frank and Katherine Morrison and son, Tom Allen Morrison Jr.
Survivors include his sons Paul (Tonya) Morrison, Tim (Ann) Morrison and Johnny Morrison, daughter-in-law Gina Morrison, grandchildren Tonia Yates, Eric (Alex) Sexton, Hannah Morrison, Katherine (Josh) McBryar, Jacob Morrison, Elisha (Alyssa) Morrison and Mason Morrison, great-grandchildren Ezriel and Azarah Lula-Faye Morrison, Addalyn, Kash, River and Legend Sexton, as well as Oden and Maddox Hood, brothers Billy Frank Morrison, Pat Morrison and sister Ingrid Morrison Stoddard, several nieces, nephews, as well as also cousins and friends.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Tom’s life was held on Sunday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home’s Jasper Chapel, with Pastor Roger Webb who officiated.
Mr. Morrison was laid to rest with his beloved wife Faye at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper.
Family and friends were invited to gather for public visitation on Sunday, June 1 from 12 p.m. to 2 P.M. at Rogers Funeral Home’s Jasper Chapel.
Pallbearers were Paul Morrison, Tim Morrison, Johnny Morrison, Eric Sexton, Jacob Morrison, Elisha Morrison, Mason Morrison, Michael Pickett and Nicholas Pickett.
Tom lived a life rooted in service and love for his community and family. While his presence will be missed, his memory and the love he shared will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
