The Lankester Hotel 1937

The Lankester Hotel opened in 1900 on the square in Jasper. It was owned by Mr. J. G. Lancaster, “a retired traveling man of fine intelligence and a capable conservationist,” it was managed by Albert Lancaster. Well known guests at the hotel included John D. Rockefeller and Henry Ford. Alton Graham ran the hotel for a while. Although long gone, in its heyday the hotel had a porter and “Dr.” Johnson’s office. While the “Dr.” was very good at healing and quite professional, it turned out that he was not licensed. The image of the hotel dates from the winter of 1937, the card is postmarked March 7, 1938. A written comment on the reverse has this to say about Lankesters’. “An old hotel, but me I will always remember the 4 yr Kentucky ham and beaten biscuits!”
