Two recognitions were made during November’s County Commission meeting regarding Carter West of Marion County High School and students from Marion County’s 4-H Youth Development Program.
Carter West was recognized for his achievements as the school’s lead scorer for the golfing team. He not only earned a berth to Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s (TSSAA) golf tournament at Sevierville Golf and Country Club earlier this year, but also earned an invitation to attend Chattanooga’s own Prep Golf Tournament. According to Marion County High School’s assistant principal, Chuck Keef, is an invitation-only golf tournament.
“This year he was invited to play in the Chattanooga City Prep Golf Tournament, which is an invitation only tournament for the best high school golfers in the Chattanooga area,” said Keef. He also added that for him, Carter represented the county, community and school very well, wishing for the board to have West recognized. That wish ultimately came true when county mayor David Jackson presented Carter with his very own certificate of recognition during the meeting.
Four students of the county’s 4-H Youth Development Program, Lucas Jordan, Isabella Petty, Michaela Petty and Casey Colvin, were also recognized for their accomplishments during the meeting, with Dannie Braford, Director of Marion County Extension leading the discussion of recognition.
“To prepare for this competition, we had specialists come out. Including a nutritionist and a veterinarian who helped us study the material related to these specialized fields,” explained Isabella Petty. The competition itself was held in Louisville, Kentucky under the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), the largest livestock-based show within the entire world.
“I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are so grateful for this opportunity and for our county representative Mrs. Dannie,” stated Colvin. And much like West’s recognition, theirs was concluded with roaring applause from those who attended the meeting, as well as from all board members of the county commission.
