Jasper’s long-standing zoning regulation, which restricts self-storage and mini-storage spaces to industrial zones, will have new opportunities after the October 9 Jasper city meeting.

As a prospective revenue source for the city and a forward-looking initiative, the mayor and alderman board of Jasper conducted the first reading of a proposed amendment. This change aims to enable the planning commission to assess requests for storage unit facilities in non-industrial areas on a case-by-case basis, thus broadening the planning commission’s influence on the community’s development.

The motion for approval was led by Alderwoman Vikki Morgan and received unanimous support from the board. This development showcases the city’s commitment to adapting and evolving its zoning regulations to better suit the changing needs of the city.
