Members of the South Pittsburg Historic Preservation Society (SPHPS) committee has welcomed Kellye Hogan and Pam Collier as Chairman and Treasurer of the board, as well as Carolyn Millhiser and Bill Boyd in their returning positions as Secretary and Vice Chairman.

During the board’s recent meeting, Hogan was given the opportunity to start the meeting as its newly elected Chairman, following in the footsteps of her father and now former Chairman Ron Hudson. Hogan herself served as a member of the SPHPS committee for five years. During the meeting, Hogan expressed her appreciation for all board members electing her into the new role.

“I want to thank you all for your vote of confidence, voting for me as your chairperson,” said Hogan. “I hope that I do the best job ever.”

Hogan explained that the board is currently working on several new projects, including establishing fundraisers and public activities to the community during fall each year. One of the activities in mind is an annual BBQ cook-off, looking to begin in fall 2027. The projects will be made to help not only support the historic society in their goals, but also to further attract visitors and residents to South Pittsburg’s rooted history in Marion County.

A history the historic society strives to preserve.

“We’re looking at possibly doing some grants and fundraisers to try to bring attention to the rich history that South Pittsburg has,” said Hogan.

Alongside Hogan, Collier has officially been elected as the board’s newest treasurer, following in the footsteps of former treasurer Candy O’Leary. Boyd and Millhiser have also been reelected into their respected roles as Vice Chairman and Secretary of SPHPS, both already longtime members of the committee. All elected and reelected officials are happy to serve within their respected roles, all of who are eager to continue the organization’s mission of historic preservation within South Pittsburg.
