South Pittsburg’s Board of Mayor & Commissioners recently agreed to provide $1,500 in insurance funds to the town’s Little League Cheer Program.
Crystal Lancaster, Vice President of the community’s Little League cheer program, stated on behalf of the program, that she was seeking support from the city council to help cover the costs of insurance for the program . She explained the funds would not only help to cover all insurance costs but also provide the financial support needed to keep the cheer program thriving. The little league program has hosted fundraisers in the past to help cover the costs. However, due to inflation, members of the program were only able to receive so much in donations while additionally needing to purchase gear and outfits for all attending members, leaving Lancaster and members of the program’s committee to seek help from the city board.
“In this financially draining economy, that money only goes so far,” said Lancaster.
Commissioner Mike Allen asked for clarification as to what the money is being used for, to which Crystal stated the money will specifically be used for insurance costs, as each student in attendance averages $75. And when asked if the program received money from the city through its fundraisers, she explained no money from the city has been received through each one.
The Little League Cheer Program currently has 60 cheerleaders, with Crystal and other members of the committee dedicated to providing an affordable program for families within the community. During this month’s meeting, all members of the city council agreed to provide $1,500 to support the program’s insurance costs, ensuring sufficient coverage for all participants during the remainder of the year.
