Sonja K. Lewis, 92 of Jasper was called home on Sunday, February 15. Born on November 27, 1933 in Augsburg, Germany, she was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth Prahofer. Her life’s journey carried her across continents and into the hearts of all who knew her. For 54 years, Sonja shared a devoted marriage with her husband George W. Lewis until his death. Together, they built a life rich with love, laughter, and adventure. Traveling with her family was one of her greatest joys, and she cherished every opportunity to explore new places with the people she loved most. At home, Sonja found happiness in the simple, beautiful things, cooking meals that brought everyone to the table, tending to her flowers, and filling her home with warmth. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Her love for them was unwavering and her presence brought comfort, strength, and joy. Sonja leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. Her memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Sonja is preceded in death by her father and mother Mr. & Mrs. Prahofer, husband George W. Lewis, brothers Carl, Hupert and Godtfrid, and sisters Ava, Ottlie, Maria, Lissle and Garldnea.
Left to cherish her memories are her son George Lewis, sisters Helga and Isalday, sister-in-law Shirley Warren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as other family members and friends.
Visitation was on Wednesday, February 18 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.
A short prayer was spoken by family at the pavilion at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday, February 19 at 10 a.m. CST (11 a.m. ET).
