Samuel T. “Butch” Haskew, 75

Samuel T. “Butch” Haskew, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Fiery Gizzard Cove on Tuesday, March 5. He was born in Fiery Gizzard Cove on the same family farm on February 18, 1949, and a member of the South Pittsburg High School senior class of 1969.

He worked for over fifty years as an active member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).  Sam spent decades trading, breaking, buying, and selling racking horses. He valiantly fought Parkinson’s for over a decade. Most of all he loved the Lord and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Marlin Haskew, and Sallie Mae Gilliam Haskew. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Haskew; daughter, Emma (Doug) Nelson; stepsons, Kelly (Kathy) Smith, Michael (Wendy) Smith; grandsons, Samuel (Rebekah) Nelson, Matthew Nelson; step-grandchildren, Makenzie Smith, Shelby Smith, Hayden Smith, Creek Smith, and Baylee Smith; great-granddaughter, Zelie Nelson; sister, Louise Britt and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg with Reverend Mark Wilson officiating. Visitation was on Friday, March 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the chapel. Sam will be laid to rest at Gilliam Cemetery in Battle Creek. The pallbearers will be Sam Nelson, Matt Nelson, Kelly Smith, Mike Smith, James Haskew, and Lamar Gothard. Arrangements were entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home, 400 Laurel Ave, South Pittsburg, TN (423) 837-7176.
