At the Marion County Commissioner board meeting, the board reviewed bids for the second round of fire equipment purchases funded by a grant.

Two bids were submitted: one from Safe Industries for $99,006.58 and another from Tennessee Fire Equipment for $88,199.47. Mayor David Jackson recommended proceeding with the lower bid from Tennessee Fire Equipment.

Commissioner Schaffer expressed his support for the initiative, noting the value of the equipment for local communities and volunteer fire departments. He addressed concerns raised by residents of Jasper Highlands, stating, “This is an example of how you benefit from the county, as the fire department will be better equipped to service your area effectively.”

Mayor Jackson elaborated on the collaborative effort behind the equipment list, explaining that it was developed with input from all 14 rural fire departments in the county. Charles McIntyre from Crosstruck had also been involved in the process. Jackson emphasized that the equipment distribution was designed to meet the varying needs of each department, ensuring fairness and inclusion.

The board unanimously voted to accept the lower bid from Tennessee Fire Equipment.
