A large rockslide recently occurred on 1-24 West near the Marion County/Franklin County line on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reported the incident Tuesday afternoon. The rockslide caused a significant slowdown in oncoming traffic, all drivers on the road were directed towards the left shoulder as clean-up crews were sent to clear the path left blocked by the boulder. Major delays were announced by TDOT officials regarding traffic coming through the stretch of I-24, and all drivers were advised to exercise caution while caught in backed up traffic.

“Traffic is getting by slowly on the left shoulder. Delays expected. Please use caution when traveling through this area,” posted TDOT Communications Officer Rae Anne Bradley.

The area on I-24 west has since been cleaned and opened back up for passing traffic.
