Richard “Richie” Odel Hubbard, 71, of South Pittsburg was born in Lubbock, Texas on October 23, 1953. He passed away on Friday, February 21.

Richie was known for his love of fishing in Texas and was called Catfish by friends in Texas. He always wanted to move to Tennessee where his mother was from because he loved the mountains and trees and hated the West Texas winds. He felt like he was on vacation every day in Tennessee. He was a Master ASE Certified Mechanic and Service Manager for different dealerships. He loved old cars and refurbished several although he insisted, they be “drivers” to enjoy and not to just show.

Richie was a talented musician who played in a band when he was younger called Rox. He loved playing the 12-string guitar and singing.  He shared his love of music with everyone and bought several guitars for young kids that expressed an interest in learning to play. Richie liked buying donuts and giving them out around town to people he liked and loved his “girls” at Waffle House where he ate breakfast most mornings. He played fast-pitch softball on a minor league team for Baldrich’s Bakery when he was younger. He loved the Green Bay Packers. He played on several bowling teams and enjoyed playing golf. He was ‘voluntold’ by his wife and supported her with Smiles Charitable Dental Clinic. Richie didn’t want anyone to mourn him. He would tell you to take a shot of Jack and “Get back to work”.

Richie was dedicated to his family and loved his wife, Bobbi and his dog, Gizmo, very much. He was extremely proud of his sons, Brian (Amy) Hubbard, Brent (Melissa) Hubbard, and Bryan (Maddie) Hensley. He adored all his grandkids, Cameron Hubbard, Raimee Hubbard, Justin Rorex, Nikki Glass, Lindsey Glass, Noah Glass, Marty Vizi Jr, McKayla (PJ) Gammel and two great-grandsons, Sawyer and Weston Gammel.

Richie was preceded in death by his parents, Loy Hubbard and Imojene Jackson and by his son, Bradley Hensley.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 1 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Bonaventure in Bridgeport, AL.
