The Princess Theatre, one of South Pittsburg’s most historic and iconic landmarks, is now under new management by Wesley and Kerri Brewer, following official approval by the local Board of Mayor and Commissioners.

Two bids for managing the property were recently submitted to City Administrator Michael Hudson for review. Out of the two, the Brewers’ bid was recommended due to their background in social media, technology, and the performing arts—three highlights Hudson felt stood out most.

Wesley, Extension Agent for Marion County’s UT Extension Office, explained that the theatre will operate under an expense-based budget, meaning all income earned throughout the year will go directly back into the theatre, rather than being divided between different sources.

Hudson acknowledged that, under new management and with his own involvement as City Administrator, it will take time to build more revenue for the theatre. However, he emphasized that if the process is done correctly, the landmark will benefit the entire community by attracting more visitors and boosting local business.

During the discussion, Kerri shared how she and Wesley recently visited McMinnville’s Park Theater to meet with manager Joe Harvey, who inspired them with ideas on how a theatre can increase tax revenue while also promoting the arts. That visit, she said, changed their approach to managing and continuing operations at the Princess Theatre. The couple plans to work as contract employees for the City of South Pittsburg. Hudson added that he also spoke with Harvey before the meeting, as he is unfamiliar with overseeing theatre operations in his current role.

The motion to accept and appoint the Brewers as the theatre’s new management was officially approved, placing the historic venue under their guidance moving forward.
