Powells Crossroads’ Board of Mayor & Aldermen has given the go ahead for the revision of its Personnel Policy, ranging from federal holidays to Election Day.

Required by state and federal law, the Personnel Policy regards a variety of guidelines and regulations for all city based employees to abide by. Similar to a business, the policy centers around four major categories in which every county-based government must have in place, ranging from non-discriminatory rules to holidays and drug tests. City Mayor Dwight Richards noted on the revisions in Resolution #2025-40, which consisted of changes to holidays and the days that city employees are given time off for. Among one of the revisions made was for Election Day, as several years prior the board had to close down for Election Day within its original location upon voting made publicly open. However, because of the newer town hall that sits today, the current hall no longer closes for Election Day, leaving room for votes to be conducted within the original town hall without interfering with city hall operations.

“Years ago, we would be over at the other building and that’s where they had the election, so we had to be closed. But once we moved over here, it’s all different,” said Richards.

Additionally, several federal holidays were added onto the updated policy, including Juneteenth that is held every year on June 19. Richards added how the policy is required to be updated every five years by the state, a requirement also enacted towards other city in Tennessee.

The revisions were unanimously approved under Resolution #2025-40’s first and only reading, right away making the policy code in Powells Crossroads.
