South Pittsburg Police Chief, Wayne Jordan shared several updates to the city board during this month’s annual city meeting. The first report shared was the termination of a newly hired officer, whom according to Chief Jordan was let go on the first day due to his “immaturity”. Jordan, however, also requested to hire a new officer to fill the position. Another piece of information shared with the board was of phone calls that were made throughout October regarding the speed limits of the Cedar Avenue extension which runs behind Quik Silver Pawn. The people who called expressed their concerns about how traffic goes too fast through the area, sparking worries of safety. It was suggested that the speed for the extension should be 15 miles per hour, which Jordan noted when he went out to investigate and found no speed limit sign for 15 miles an hour for drivers to follow. Another set of information also brought up was of complaints due to the usage of foul language near the pickle ball court, in which those using the basketball court beside it have used inappropriate language during times of play. Wayne proposed to the board to have “no foul language” signs posted around both courts. Other information shared also included the demolition of property located on 200 Holly Avenue. All documentation has been presented to the board regarding moving forward with the demolition itself. Before concluding, Chief Jordan took a moment to thank the board members whose terms concluded with this month’s meeting. He thanked them for all their hard work, as well as for sharing how much of an honor it was to work with them during their times as members of the city government.
“I’d like to personally thank all of you. It’s been a great four years to watch all the growth over here.” said Wayne. All propositions and information presented were approved during the remainder of the city’s board meeting.
