Posted on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 3:02 pm

Parkridge Health System (PHS) is the first health system in the Chattanooga area to offer 3D mammography imaging with artificial intelligence (AI) assistance for breast cancer screening.

The AI enhancements of the new technology, paired with 3D imaging, allow doctors to better view and diagnose breast abnormalities. AI technology analyzes screening images that improves diagnostic accuracy, and 3D imaging offers superior viewing for physicians. “Finding breast cancer early reduces a woman’s risk of dying from the disease by 25-30 percent or more,” said Dr. Trey Carr, director of medical imaging at Parkridge Health. “With this new technology, we will be able to more effectively screen for breast cancer and give patients a better opportunity for early detection and treatment.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 240,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and about 2,100 in men each year in the United States. About 42,000 women and 500 men in the U.S. die each year from breast cancer. The new AI-enhanced 3D mammography delivers the lowest radiation exposure of breast cancer screening devices.

PHS offers convenient online scheduling for mammograms. To learn more about breast cancer screening and to make an appointment, visit ParkridgeHealth.com.
