The Orena Humphreys Public Library in Whitwell will be relocating to a new space soon and are in need of supplies and volunteers. “We are in need of boxes, volunteers to pack the boxes and people with trucks to help us move. If you can provide any of that help it will be gratefully appreciated!” This is a great opportunity for high school students to get in service hours for TN Promise.
The Library will be closed to the public August 5 – August 23. You are invited to come in this week and check out books to last you during the closure, which is an added bonus that those books will not need moved! No late fees will be charged for books currently checked out. You will return those, once they’ve opened back up, to the new location at 13535 Hwy 28. An Open House/Grand Re-Opening will be held in early September.
This will only be a temporary home until the new Whitwell Heritage Center can be built near Whitwell Middle School. The new Heritage Center will house the library, the Coal Miner’s Museum, the Children’s Holocaust Memorial Artifact Reading Room, the Senior Citizens Center and space for meetings and exhibits for US Military Veterans. Fundraising is ongoing for this outstanding community project.
