The Board of Mayor and Commissioners of South Pittsburg unanimously approved two ordinances to address regulatory issues.
First, Ordinance 853, titled “An Ordinance of the Board of Mayor and Commissioners of South Pittsburg, Tennessee Adopting the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), 2018 Edition,” was passed. This ordinance, which references Tennessee Code Annotated Sections 5-20-101 and following, officially adopts the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) with certain exceptions. This adoption was necessary to correct a previous oversight discovered during an audit. The city had initially adopted the 2018 code in 2023 but had inadvertently omitted the energy code, requiring a re-adoption to align with the audit. The updated ordinance will assist contractors by eliminating the need for costly pressure tests on houses and relaxing some insulation requirements.
Following that, Ordinance 854, “An Ordinance to Amend Ordinance No. 787, The Existing Sewer Use Ordinance, and Adopt Wastewater Regulations,” was also approved. This ordinance focuses on updating wastewater regulations for the city. The board passed this ordinance without further discussion.
