Dated December 29, 1926, this real picture postcard shows the NC & StL Railroad bridge crossing Battle Creek near South Pittsburg during a flood. Before Nickajack Dam was built, this area was prone to flooding even though Hales Bar Dam was located at Guild. People could still ride horses across the Tennessee River near South Pittsburg during the dry season of late summer.
