Several updates and upgrades regarding both Moore and Lloyd parks of South Pittsburg were shared to the Board of Mayor & Commissioners, as well as the audience attending during the town’s public meeting.
City Administrator Michael Hudson explained how three years ago, $150,000 in grants were provided to the Board during the previous administration, with the funds never being utilized. Hudson noted all funds throughout the course of three months have been spent to provide a number of new additions and upgrades to Moore Park, including installing new playground and exercise equipment, as well as baseball field bases and bleachers. He mentioned brand new benches are on the way in addition to brand new music equipment and additional playground equipment to be added in the next six months. All original ball courts have been resurfaced, as well as three pickle ball courts and a new basketball court being installed within the park’s premises. Netting for all three pickleball courts was also announced to also be on the way, and upgrades to all bathrooms, as well as the installation of security cameras.
“The idea is to button up Moore Park and move on to Lloyd Park, where we’ve applied for a $450,000 diabetes grant for Lloyd Park. And we’ll know if we get that in the next week,” explained Hudson.
He also added if the diabetes grant is awarded to the Board, a three year project on updating Lloyd Park can officially begin, with $150,000 to be spent each year to help achieve that goal. The conversation ultimately concluded with Michael finishing sharing his park updates, and the Board continued onward with the meeting via checking with the town’s other departments.
