On November 9, the Marion County High School Interact Club was busy building beds.  These beds serve a greater purpose than most even think about, because mostly everyone has a place to lay their heads at night. However, not everyone has a bed, and that is what the MCHS Interact Club wanted to help with. Therefore, that Saturday they decided to bring tools, materials, and ready hands to contribute to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an organization that builds beds for children that don’t have them. Founded in 2012, they already have 350 chapters across the country. In this time alone, they have given a jaw-dropping 61,080 kids a bed. Each kid receives a twin bed frame, pillow, mattress protector, and a bedding set. The beds are hand built by SHP and local organizations like the Interact Club for kids ages 3-17. Our local chapter, which covers more than just Marion County, has delivered 2,009 beds in surrounding areas.

The Interact Club has helped with this program for a couple of years already. On this particular day, they made 25 beds. They worked incredibly hard in the back parking lot of MCHS, forming an assembly line-like strategy. There were several groups of people doing separate things, like hammering nails and moving wood, sawing and finalizing with the SHP brand. Collins Building Supply happily provided wood for this project. In addition to making the beds, the Interact Club provided 25 bedding sets. The MCHS Beta Club also pitched in to help by providing the pillows and gifting each kid a pajama set.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s motto is “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town”. The Interact Club, Beta, SP Rotary Club and even local businesses like Collins want to help make this true. Performing the teamwork to make that possible.
