Needing to rebound after suffering their first loss last week, Marion County traveled more than 70 miles to hand region foe Monterey a 42-0 defeat.
The Warriors (5-1) jumped out to a 13-0 first-quarter lead, scoring on their first two drives. Back under center, Brett Webb handed off to Ashton Richards, who broke free for a 29-yard touchdown to cap the opening possession. Webb then kept it himself on the next series for a 5-yard score.
Webb made his impact through the air as well, completing 6 of 12 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
With under three minutes left in the first half, Webb connected with Mason Mays for an 8-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 28-0. After the Wildcats (2-4) failed to convert a fourth-and-5 at their own 41 on the ensuing drive, Webb found Zaiden Humphrey on the next play for a reception score.
Humphrey also had a 48-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, finishing with 96 total yards and two touchdowns. He was one of five Marion rushers with at least 30 yards, as the Warriors piled up 316 on the ground. Mays led the way with 89 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Neno Humphrey added 48.
The Warriors’ defense did its part, posting their third shutout of the season and holding Monterey to just 43 yards of offense. Marion dominated the stat sheet, compiling 417 total yards, converting 6 of 8 on third down.
Marion County returns to region play Friday night, hosting Bledsoe County (5-1) in a matchup of one-loss teams.
