Martha Lou “Marty” Shelton Layne, age 79 of Powells Crossroads passed away on Friday, January 2. She was a long time member of Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She served many years on the Board of Christian Education of the TN/GA Presbytery. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years at Oak Grove.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert H. “Bob” Layne, parents C.S. and Jaunita McCurry Shelton, as well as brothers David Shelton and Rev. Robert Shelton.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children Rev. Phillip Layne of Whitwell, Marian “Kitty” (Barry) Griffith of Whitwell, brother John Shelton of Pikeville, in addition to several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were held Monday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Whitwell, with Rev. Brenda Woods, Rev. Rhonda McGowan and Rev. Kriss McGowan who officiated. Burial followed suite in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. All arrangements were made by Reed Funeral Home, 11675 Hwy 28, Whitwell, TN. Visitation was held Sunday, January 4 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday, January 5 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
