Marion votes in mayors, aldermen

Several Marion County cities have new mayors and aldermen as the November ballot was full of races that will have a local impact.

For South Pittsburgh, Shawn Henson is the newly elected mayor for the city, taking in a total of 766 votes for a percentage of 71.39%. Brandon Gilliam was placed second, taking in 307 voter for a total percentage of 28.61%. For early votes, Shawn took in 408 votes, while Brandon took in 177, adding up to 585 early votes in total. For Election Day itself, Shawn had 336 votes while Brandon had 118. And with absentee votes, Henson had 22 and Gilliam only 12.

South Pittsburg Districts 1-3 have also received their number of voters for this year’s election, with Mike Allen winning for District 1 with a grand total of 177 votes, including all absentee and early votes. Jimmy P. Haley Jr. was second with a total of 100 votes and Ian Castro at third with 59 votes. For District 2, Beth Duggar earned 244 total votes, while Amber Sausaman, placed in second behind Duggar, taking in 75 votes. As for District 3, Ronny Myers took in 88 while Bufford Swafford only received 67 votes in total.

The City of Kimball has once again voted in Rex Pesnell as its mayor, as he had won against Billy King by a total amount of 454 votes to King’s 294. The town of Kimball has also voted in Jerry Don Case and John D. Matthews as Aldermen of the city, with Jerry having the most votes with 590, while John following behind with 402 total votes.

In nearby Jasper, Jason Turner is re-elected as the town’s mayor with a total of 1,383 voters. The town also has re-elected Jim Fowler as the town’s Alderman alongside Vice-Mayor Les Price, with Fowler having 819 votes alongside Price’s 725. Paul West was voted at third with 554, while John Christof was fourth with 243 total votes. The town of Monteagle voted in both Dean Lay and Kenneth W. Gipson as Aldermen of the city, with Dean taking in 148 total amount of votes from this year’s election and Kenneth not far behind with 121 registered votes. Grant Fletcher was in third with 116 registered votes.

Billy Frame of New Hope was elected in as the town’s new mayor, earning 247 votes against Jeff Story’s 226 and Rhonda Lawson’s 58. Caleb Choate and John Lawson are also elected as the town’s two new Aldermen, with Choate taking in 339 and Lawson 258 votes in total, while James Easterly only took in 153 total votes. Powell’s Crossroads has re-elected Greg Davis as its Alderman, racking in a grand amount of votes of 570. Larry H. Higdon has also been re-elected as Alderman of the community via with an unexpired term, taking in 569 votes. Whitwell has also voted in Mayor Sandra Crabtree, David Hudson and Jimmy Nunley as part of the city’s own commission, wrapping up another new year of election for Marion County’s seats of politics.
