Built in 1923, after the original courthouse at Jasper burned in 1922, this image of the courthouse dates from 1940 when there were not yet any monuments on the lawn. Jim W. Morrison was a local attorney and judge in Jasper and maintained an office in the courthouse. Prior to that, he was a deputy sheriff or sheriff for 16 years. He arrested five criminals who were executed (hanged). This courthouse caught on fire in 1984, was remodeled and is in use today.
