The Marion County Warriors basketball team has endured several close defeats this season, many of them coming in a tough district featuring Grundy County, Bledsoe County, and Sequatchie County. However, they were able to get a big win in a non-district matchup against Boyd Christian, winning 86-46.
The Warriors started the game hot and never really looked back. Noah Gravitt was the leading scorer in the first quarter with seven points. Senior Jordan Potoski had five points, including a shot from beyond the arc. Senior Zade Pemberton and junior Zaiden Humphrey were not far behind with four points apiece. Maddox Campbell rounded out the scoring with a basket of his own. Boyd Christian managed just 10 points in the period.
Marion County stayed hot in the second quarter, scoring 30 points. Potoski led the squad with eight points in the quarter. TJ Starkey had six points, as did Mychal Patterson, who connected on a pair of threes. Gravitt added five points, while Humphrey and Pemberton rounded out the scoring with a bucket apiece.
Gravitt continued his strong night in the third quarter with seven more points, finishing with 19 for the game. Potoski added five more to his total, and Patterson connected on another triple. Campbell and Starkey each made a basket in the period as well.
Ty Binford scored five points in the final quarter. Layton Bradford and Neno Humphrey each knocked down a three, while Patterson and Campbell rounded out the scoring with two points apiece in the quarter.
The Warriors earned a dominant win on the road after dismantling North Jackson the night before, 80-54. Marion County appears to be hitting its stride at the right time of the season.
Marion County is back in action at home on Friday, January 23 for a huge district matchup versus Sequatchie County. Varsity Girls tip off at 6 p.m., followed by Varsity Boys at 7:30 p.m.
