Lydia’s Lavender Lane, a new flower shop recently opened its doors to the public on 211 Elm Avenue in South Pittsburg.

Christy Joyce Moody and Taylor Marie Gunter, mother and daughter, are the owners and founders of Lydia’s Lavender Lane. The duo have owned another location in Ider, AL for the past four years before recently deciding to open a second location.

The building, known as the Marion Lodge, dates its construction back to between 1888 and 1900. When Christy and Taylor first visited the shop space on the building’s first floor, they were doubtful about its condition. Christy admitted, “I thought there’s no way we could fix this up to where it would be presentable.” However, as the renovation progressed, the process went smoothly, and the space transformed significantly. Taylor reflected on the progress, saying, “It has come a long way.”

Lydia’s Lavender Lane was named after Taylor’s newborn daughter Lydia, who passed away the day after her birth in November 2022. They wanted to come up with a fitting name that matched with Lydia’s to honor her. Christy initially thought of the name ‘Lydia’s Lavender Lane,’ and as Taylor explained, “it kind of stuck with us.”

Since their grand opening on October 7th, they have had a plethora of support from local residents and businesses alike, including Lodge Cast Iron, who was among their first buyers after the grand opening. “We’ve only officially opened Monday, and they’ve already ordered from us 4 different times.” said Taylor. Other contributors include U.S. Stove and nearby North Jackson High School, who have purchased flowers from them for their upcoming homecoming event. Lydia’s Lavender Lane is excited to keep thriving and blooming within our community.
