Larry Wayne Poppen, 58

Larry Wayne Poppen, age 58 of Monteagle passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, surrounded by his loving family.

Born with a generous heart and a tireless spirit, Larry was known for his unwavering dedication to those he loved. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, he never missed a game and proudly wore his team colors. But his true passion was found in the kitchen, where he delighted in cooking meals for his family, often turning ordinary evenings into cherished memories.

Larry also found joy in the quiet moments—casting a line into the water on a fishing trip, sharing stories around the dinner table, or simply spending time with those closest to him. His work ethic was unmatched, and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his warmth, humor, as well as his generosity.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Poppen, brother Jesse Poppen, sister Shari Poppen, William “Buck” Buchanan and cousin Gary Wingfield.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years Helen Davis Poppen, son Mark (Heather Gail) Poppen, grandchildren Madison Poppen, Leland Poppen and Lainey Poppen, father Harold Poppen, nephew Cody Poppen, aunt Nancy Buchanan, nieces Jessica and Alexis Poppen, as well as many friends.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, October 20 at 1 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home.

Mr. Poppen was laid to rest at the Orme Cemetery on Orme Mountain.

Visitation was also held on Monday, October 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home’s South Pittsburg Chapel prior to the funeral service being hosted.

Pallbearers were Mark Poppen, Neil Roberson, Chris Lehr and Tony Nunley.

Rest easy, Larry. Your memory lives on in every heart you’ve touched.
