The Whitwell Lady Tigers went on the road last Tuesday for a matchup against the Saint Andrews Sewanee Mountain Lions. The game was never close, as Whitwell went on to win the contest 62–24.
The Lady Tigers came out of the gates ready to play, with junior Callie Brock scoring eight points in the opening quarter. Charlee Casseday and Anistyn Tate connected on three-pointers to add to the scoring. Ayva Apostle, Layla Holder, and Kiley Billingsley each added two points as well. The defense was stellar, allowing only four points in the quarter.
The second quarter wasn’t kind to either team’s offense, as the Lady Tigers scored nine points and the Mountain Lions scored five. Apostle led Whitwell with six points in the period. Brock connected on a pair of free throws, and Holder knocked down a free throw.
The Lady Tigers came out of the break not letting anything slow them down on offense. Brock scored nine points and Apostle had seven to lead Whitwell in the quarter. Cadance Caldwell and Holder each had a bucket to round out the scoring.
Cameron Griffith, Sophie Cookston, and Peyton Goforth all connected on shots from beyond the arc. Caldwell also added to the scoring with two points.
It was a great night for the Lady Tigers, as ten Whitwell players contributed to the scoring. Brock finished the night with 19 points, and Apostle ended with 17.
The Lady Tigers are back in action on Thursday, January 29 at Lookout Valley. Girls Varsity tips off at 5:30 p.m., followed by Boys Varsity at 7 p.m.
