The Whitwell Lady Tigers were in action last Friday, hosting Bledsoe County and winning by a score of 10-1.
Whitwell got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run from Ella Layne. Freshman Peyton Goforth later doubled in the inning to put the Lady Tigers up by four runs.
In the bottom of the third inning, freshman Olivia Nolan hit a hard ground ball that resulted in an error, driving in another run. Bledsoe County scored its only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.
Lillian Ray tripled in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Jacie Willis and Nolan. Layne ended the game with her second two-run home run of the night, putting the mercy rule into effect for the Lady Tigers.
Whitwell finished with eight hits as a team in the contest. Goforth was excellent in the circle, throwing a complete game. The freshman allowed just three hits and one run while recording four strikeouts.
Whitwell has now won three straight games after starting the season 1-2. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play in a weekend tournament, though the location is currently unknown.
